Shift Madness by Jenna Maclellan
The 2017 NCAA Men’s Basketball Tournament — more commonly known as March Madness — came to an end earlier this month. And with many games taking place during the workday, our lobby (which includes a giant TV) suddenly became the perfect place to hang out and ‘get some work done’.
If you don’t already know, the biggest key to the tremendous popularity of the tournament is the bracket. The March Madness bracket is the grid of all the teams in the tournament and the path they must follow to the Final Four and the championship game. Upset about how your bracket turned out? Don’t worry, most of us at the office were too. Filling out a bracket with the winners of each of the 67 games in the tournament is actually an incredibly difficult task. The odds of you filling out a perfect bracket are 1 in 9.2 quintillion. That’s a nine with 18 zeroes or 9,223,372,036,854,775,808 if you’re not into the whole rounding thing.
This year, all buy ins were in the form of a donation to #PaulieStrong – The Paulie Strong Foundation. The foundation’s mission is to continue raising awareness and funds for Pediatric Cancer Research. After all participating employees made their donations, Shift Digital took it a step further and decided they would match all buy ins, raising a total of $895 for the foundation.
After many shifts for the first-place position, the bracket winner in the end was Alyse Yashinsky. Close behind was Nick Cone in second and Alex Hines third. Congrats, Alyse! Your trophy is a beaut.
